U Do It Legal
U Do It Legal (udiL) is a legal startup aiming to make accessible complex legal procedures to self-represented litigants in California family law cases. The Process
Secondary Research
The team analyzed research documentation that was previously conducted by udiL, which included their own internal research and external recommended articles.
Approach
Better understand the problem space and explore what research has already been conducted by udiL.
Goal
Main Takeaways
The majority of our user group consists of women in their mid to late 20s-30s above poverty line.
There is a lack of DVRO resources currently available, despite its overwhelming need.
Web UI in this space should feel personal and warm but not silly or whimsical.
Persona Creation
Team members analyzed StoryJam using Jakob’s Ten Usability Heuristics and identified emerging UI and UX patterns for consideration.
Approach
Better understand our user group/how they would use udiL, and identify pain points relevant to the project.

Journey Mapping
Based on the overarching phases all SRLs would go through, we used our personas to visualize how SRLs going through different types of family and civil law cases may diverge in their user journey.
Approach
Understand how different types of SRLs would navigate the legal space, and identify their emotions throughout the process.
Goal
Simplified Journey Map:
